Dachau

So many words have more appropriately described both the horrors and revelations that visitors have experienced at Dachau Concentration Camp in Dachau, Germany.  For those of you who have not yet had the chance to visit one of the camps, I would like to share my visit with you...in pictures.

"Work Makes Free"

The Bunker

4 Prisoners Shared Each Bed

All but 2 of the bunkers were removed after the camp was closed.  All that remains are the foundation  stones.

When the camp was liberated there were 30 bunkers, holding up to 60,000 prisoners at any given time.

The second crematorium built at Dachau.

The gas chambers...word above the door implied that they prisoners were heading in to the showers.

  1. What a life altering event to actually visit there. It has haunted me since I first heard about it...the inhumanity of man to mank. xo Diana

  2. My heart is so grieved at the sadness and heaviness in these pictures.
    Many thoughts and heart-cries.

  3. Wow Rebekah - what a haunting reminder of what evil can accomplish...sad! I'm FINALLY caught up on your blog (I haven't visited since Charlie was born). You have been a busy, busy girl. Luckily, Tara has kept me posted on some of your adventures and I'm SO glad you got to have a "real" Christmas experience. I'm sure it's one you will not soon forget. Germany looks amazing - I've always wanted to visit...now that you know your way around, maybe you can be a tour guide for Tara and I sometime :) That is, after the kids are a little bit older. Charlie is such a sweet baby and Ethan is totally in love with him - in fact, Charlie has already had 2 eye infections from Ethan giving him "love". I can't wait to see you this summer - if you're home in time, you should come and work with me for a couple of weeks! Hope you are doing well - I miss you, love you and am praying for you everyday ~ Love, Mindy

  4. Sandy and I visited Dachau many years ago before we were even married...I am glad to see signs are in English. they were in German only then and we had an interpreter. but the part that bothers me the most were the horrific experiments that were performed? Unthinkable conditions and experiments. thanks for sharing your experience...its not a pleasant one.
